Jacquelyn Gurrieri, AMFT: Women's Issues and Body Image Issues

Jacquelyn Gurrieri, M.A., AMFT

Hello! I’m Jacquelyn, my pronouns are she/her thank you for visiting my page! I know it can be overwhelming and even scary to think about starting therapy and maybe you don’t even know what you’re looking for or where to begin. Therapy can be whatever you want it to be. Whether you need someone to talk to and vent about life stressors, or you need a safe place to share some difficult thoughts and feelings or if you have a specific personal or interpersonal conflict that needs resolution, therapy can assist in many of those areas.  As a client centered therapist my job is to teach you the tools to navigate through life with you as the navigator. My ultimate goal is for you to move on from therapy and have the confidence and tools to navigate life on your own.

I love to be creative in therapy by using experiential activities that welcome right brain involvement, including psychodrama, empty chair work, letter writing, music therapy, play therapy and art therapy. This can be helpful if you feel stuck or bored with typical talk therapy or if you find it difficult to connect to your emotions.  I also use CBT and DBT with a behavioral approach to therapy to help challenge behavior and thinking that can be maladaptive. This includes addiction issues, self harm, disordered eating behaviors, self esteem issues, identity issues and trauma as well.

When you come into therapy, I take the time to understand the whole you, not just your diagnosis or symptoms. We take a look at all areas of our life and see what needs to be addressed, supported and adjusted. Wellness falls into many categories and they all support each other. This is a system view that I have as a couples and family therapist. We look at your relationships and how we can strengthen your support symptoms. Whether you need support with the relationship with yourself, your body, your partner, your family member and your friends, really any relationship to a system; these are relationships we can focus on. Looking forward to creating a therapeutic relationship with you! Please feel free to reach out for a session or we can schedule a 15 minute phone consultation or text/email conversation if that’s more comfortable for you.

Jacquelyn’s Focus

  • Whether you're looking into a new career, starting a new relationship or going through a life crisis, therapy can be a great temporary support while you walk through those life transitions. It’s always helpful to have someone by your side, helping you through those experiences.

  • Being an Ally, I take an affirming approach with all my clients and accept and understand the spectrum of gender identity and sexuality. I continue to educate myself on the various ways I can support LGBTQIA+ individuals. I also support and have experience working with poly couples and polycules.

  • I take a body neutrality approach with body image issues. We address the route cause of those issues and create acceptance of the neutral experience of a healthy relationship with your body. I suggest an intuitive eating approach when it comes to nutrition. Looking at no foods as bad and again creating neutrality with food. This is just my opinion, and I am always willing to educate, but I am not a nutritionist nor am I certified in nutrition counseling.
